“Road crashes continue to cause significant human trauma, resulting in about 1,400 deaths and 32,000 hospital admissions each year. The annual cost to the national economy is estimated at around $27 billion. This cost is unacceptable when we know there are steps we can take to further improve vehicle design, driver behaviour and infrastructure that will result in fewer road crashes.”

On 13 February 2011, the Council of Australian Governments agreed to the Standing Council on Transport and Infrastructure replacing the operation and functions of the Australian Transport Council (ATC). As an advisory body to the ATC, the National Road Safety Council will now report to the Standing Council and consequently, the domain name for this website will change to www.nrsc.gov.au
